fade is my first composition, written between 2018-2019 for kalimba and cajon. The kalimba is uniquely tuned to c natural minor opposed to the typically tuned c major, making for an interesting contrast of sound that pairs well with cajon. This is my first composition for solo marimba! It is based on the concept of one's life flashing before their eyes before they pass. A great piece for advanced high school students or early undergraduates!
The purpose of this arrangement is to shed some light on the incredible music of Scarlatti, and to give percussionists a different perspective to Baroque era music! The two movements greatly contrast in character, but are united in their key center of D minor.
